Vietnam Hosts First Tourism Roadshow in Delhi, Attracts Many Indian Tourists

With a massive population with high shopping, entertainment, and consumption needs, India is becoming a potential high-end tourist market for the Vietnamese tourism industry. On August 4, a Memorandum of Understanding signing ceremony for tourism cooperation and partnership was held in Da Nang Tourism Roadshow in India 2022 in the presence of the Ambassador and tourism businesses.

To boost the tourism exchange between Da Nang and India, on August 4, Vietnam's first Tourism Roadshow in New Delhi was hosted by the Da Nang Tourism Department and Vietjet Air, showcasing the destination and new direct routes connecting Da Nang to major cities in India. Da Nang, one of Asia’s top trending destinations, the city of exciting events and festivals is welcoming potential Indian tourism partners.

The event was attended by Mr. Pham Sanh Chau - Ambassador of Vietnam to India, Mr. Rajiv Mehra - Chairman of the Indian Association of Tour Operators, more than 90 guests comprising Indian travel companies, wedding planners.

Speaking at the roadshow, Ambassador Pham Sanh Chau emphasized on the remarkable increase of outbound tourism from India due to the pent-up demand from for the last two year. According to Mr. Pham, the average number of visas for Indians to enter Vietnam has surged after COVID-19, it has increased 24 times i.e., from 250 visas per day pre-COVID-19 to 6000 visas per day at the moment. The Vietnamese Embassy has received many requests for weddings or conferences in Vietnam.

“It’s golden time for us to enhance our mutual understanding and cooperation for tourism recovery and growth, considering the significant growth in trade and commerce exchange between Vietnam and India”, Ms. Nguyen Thị Hoai An, Director of Da Nang Tourism Promotion Center remarked.

She also stressed that the roadshow is a great opportunity for us to showcase Vietnam's beautiful coastal city along with its diverse tourism products and services as well as promote our MICE and wedding destination to India. She believed it opened a new chapter for tourism cooperation between New Delhi and Da Nang, Vietnam.

MOU for enhancing cooperation between Vietnam and India

 Within the framework of the Roadshow, cooperation agreements have been signed between the Da Nang Tourism Promotion Centre (DTPC) and India’s Global Aviation Services Plt Ltd to advertise the vacation spot of Da Nang in India; and between the Da Nang Tourism Association and the Network of Indian MICE Agents (NIMA).

Global Aviation Services has consulted DTPC in promoting activities to India since 2017, the company is also coordinator for Da Nang Tourism Roadshow in India 2022. Both sides  believed the MoU along with the enhanced air connectivity from various Indian city to Da Nang, will witness a surge in tourism from different travel segments. 

The partnership betweenDATA and NIMA was established in 2019 resulted in the series of co-organized webinars in 2020 to provide destination knowledge to India travel agents. According to Mr. Jagdeep Bhagat, National Coordinator of NIMA, the organization is keen to continue the relationship with the Da Nang Tourism and believes in everlasting, constructive and progressive partnership between two organisations for mutual benefit.

With a population of 1.4 billion people and a middle class of up to 200-300 million people with high shopping, entertainment, and consumption needs, India is becoming a potential high-end tourist market for the Vietnamese tourism industry. In mid-July, a group of 460 Indian business tourists boarded flights to Ho Chi Minh City, officially starting a journey to discover Vietnam in just 3 days.

The group, which consisted of Indian bus and truck manufacturing representatives, stayed at the 5-star Vinpearl Luxury Landmark 81 and Le Meridien hotels to attend a conference, then went to visit some famous tourist attractions in the city and moved to Tien Giang before returning home. This was the largest Indian delegation to Vietnam for nearly three years.

B. Subhash Chandar, Managing Director of Asia Destination Management JSC (Asia DMC) in Vietnam and the organiser of the trip said, “Indians are used to destinations like Thailand, Singapore, and Dubai, but Vietnam is still a new destination to them. All Indian tourists are very excited to come here and explore.”

He aims to bring at least 6,000 Indian tourists to Vietnam through company tours by the end of this year. In 2019, Asia DMC brought more than 5,000 Indian guests to Vietnam.

According to Google Destination Insights, search volume for airlines to Vietnam from India increased by 400 per cent on-year in early April alone, and continued to increase by over 3,000 per cent a month later. Since the beginning of June, this rate has increased at a stable rate of more than 1,000 per cent compared to the same period last year.

The number of searches for accommodation in Vietnam has also tripled since the beginning of April this year. The most searched destinations by Indian people include Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, Phu Quoc, Quy Nhon, Danang, Hoi An, Nha Trang, Phan Thiet, Dalat, and Halong.
